Last Spring, GH Sports (Greg Hind Sports)–a run, cycle, swim, fitness, and triathlon apparel company–relocated its manufacturing facility and retail store to its original headquarters on the corner of S. Higuera and Hind Lane (3765 S. Higuera, Suite 100, San Luis Obispo, CA).

Employees, now celebrating the company’s first full year operating in the space once again, feel they had never left–who says you can’t go home again?

From April 20 to 25, they are taking time to celebrate with customers – with you.

“The building may look the same as it always has from the outside, but for the past year our seamstresses and designers have been manufacturing garments that sell in the retail space, and our local customers have been connecting with staff about their upcoming races, personal goals, etc.,” explains Garrett Long, GH Sports General Manager. “It’s a great feeling to be settled in our original headquarters and to continue the traditions started by our founder, Greg Hind. Thankfully, our customers have followed us to this new space–honoring their loyalty remains our number one goal.”

The company opened for business in 1966. In 1987, founder Greg Hind–a successful entrepreneur, businessman, and visionary–oversaw the building of the award-winning first-ofits- kind all-metal building. As an international sports apparel business, Hind Performance (as it was known at the time) counted more than 500 employees working in the space. The company also had smaller manufacturing plants in two other states.

Along with several local and national recognitions during this time, Cal Poly’s Cross Country team competed in HIND Sport Tights in a national event in the snow and won. In 1996, when Hind Performance became GH Sports, the decision was made to move to a smaller retail space at the back of the business park. This meant the corporate building was now empty. Over time the space was leased to a variety of tenants that included a non-profit company and a national healthcare-provider. When the building became vacant last year, GH Sports President and CEO Jane Ellen Hind decided to carry forward her husband Greg’s legacy and restore the original headquarters building. During the week of April 20-25, GH Sports will join its loyal customers to celebrate its one-year anniversary of the return to the company’s original home base. Anyone in the community is invited to stop by GH Sports for refreshments, a chance to win prizes and discounts, and to connect with GH staff (all of whom are current or past Cal Poly students and athletes). GH Sports is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
