Pacific Eye celebrates the holiday season with $10,000 in total contributions to local nonprofit organizations this week as a result of its 5th annual Pacific Eye Gives Back Challenge. Thousands of supporters from around the Central Coast participated in the contest throughout the month of November. Community members cast votes online and in Pacific Eye’s offices with the top-three organizations securing the largest donations.
Along Comes Hope secured the $5,000 first-place donation in the contest. The organization helps families of children with cancer with the mission, “To inspire hope and healing by keeping families together, when it matters the most.”
With Pacific Eye’s donation, Along Comes Hope intends to expand upon their current programs to provide financial assistance to families traveling for treatments, creative emotional support, and advocacy to promote policy changes, awareness and education.
RISE followed in second in the Pacific Eye Gives Back Challenge, garnering them a $2,250 donation. Founded in 2013 when the North County Women’s Shelter & Resource Center and the SARP Center of SLO County merged, RISE is dedicated to serving both victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and their loved ones. RISE stands for Respect, Inspire, Support and Empower—the men and women of RISE empower victims to heal from trauma and transform their lives
Tying up the third-place donation of $1,000 was Peoples’ Self-Help Housing. PSHH works to provide affordable housing and support programs leading to self-sufficiency for low-income families, seniors and other special needs groups on the Central Coast. Since 1970, the organization has built 1,600 affordable housing units and helped 1,200 first time home buyers build and purchase their homes.
The remaining seven organizations, Captive Hearts Recovery Services, Civic Ballet of San Luis Obispo, GleanSLO, Parents for Joy, Special Olympics of Northern Santa Barbara County, Transitions-Mental Health Association and United Way of San Luis Obispo County will each receive a $250 donation.
The eligible organizations were selected from dozens of worthy nonprofits nominated by community members earlier this year. The eye care practice’s annual contest was designed to highlight the outstanding organizations that make positive change visible on the Central Coast. This marks the fifth year that the contest has been held.
