Cuesta 170Cuesta College’s Ceramics Program is gearing up to host the college’s 2nd Annual Clay Stomp, during which students, faculty, staff and the public will mix 4,000 pounds of clay with their feet. The stomp will take place on Wednesday, September 17, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., on the grassy area between the Fine Arts building (7100) and the cafeteria (building 5100) on the San Luis Obispo Campus.

Last year’s clay stomp drew approximately 100 people and ceramics instructor Jarred Pfeiffer is hoping for even more participants this year.

“This event is very important to me – my father began the tradition when he started stomping clay in his back yard in 1978,” said Pfeiffer. “The stomp is a way to bring students, faculty and community members together to have fun and help out. Additionally, it raises awareness of Cuesta’s art department. Hopefully, participants will learn more about ceramics and then take a class in the future. Also – by purchasing the clay in bulk dry bags, we are saving the college money. Four-thousand pounds of wet clay costs about the same as 4,000 pounds of dry clay, but you get less clay because of the weight of the water.”

The clay will be used in the ceramics classes for the semester. For more information, please contact Jarred Pfeiffer at jarred_pfeiffer@cuesta.edu.
