slo downtown association logoThe San Luis Obispo Downtown Association has been working collectively with the City of San Luis Obispo and United Way to increase local awareness about local homelessness and raise funds to help local individuals and families get back on their feet. On September 9, 2014 the three organizations presented a check in the sum of $8,500 to the Friends of Prado Day Center Board of Directors.

A large portion of the funds being donated are from gracious sponsors including San Luis Obispo Mayor Jan Marx, Copeland Properties, Mary Parker and Dee Torres, Eric Meyer, The Rotary Club of San Luis Obispo Daybreak and The Wineman Building as well as Dignity Health French Hospital Medical Center and CEO Alan Iftiniuk and County Board of Supervisors Adam Hill, Bruce Gibson and Debbie Arnold. Additional funds were donated by the public at the seven Make Change Count meter stations throughout Downtown San Luis Obispo over the past several months.

The Downtown Association has a long history of supporting the Prado Day Center dating back to the beginning of the existing center where local homeless people can go for a meal and services essential to getting back into a safe living situation. The presentation of the donation check expresses the Downtown Association’s ongoing support for the services provided by the Prado Day Center its clients. The hope shared by Downtown merchants and visitors is to continue to support positive solutions at the meters to generate funds for crucial services and not to fund the potential addictions of some of the community’s most troubled individuals.
