Take some time to recharge and focus on a healthy new year. That’s the goal of the 2021 Wellness Kickoff to be held virtually on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021 at 4 p.m. Central Coast residents are invited to enjoy live music, a mindfulness activity and the chance to win some wellness-themed prizes.
During the event, Verdin and Transitions-Mental Health Association (TMHA) will also give a sneak peek of the “Save the Number” campaign encouraging locals from Lompoc to Paso Robles to save the newly renamed Central Coast Hotline, (800) 783-0607, to their phones. Registration for the event is free with a recommended donation of $10 to TMHA.
“As we all know, 2020 was an incredibly challenging year that put mental health in the spotlight like never before,” President Mary Verdin said. “The 2021 Wellness Kickoff will help people start this year on the right note by making time for self-care.”

According to a study from the Centers for Disease Control, the number of people reporting symptoms of depression in 2020 was approximately four times greater than in 2019 and the rate for anxiety was three times greater.
To improve the health of our community, Verdin partnered with TMHA to create the “Save the Number” campaign, which will include a television commercial, radio spot, digital and print ads, and social media graphics, all at no cost.
Central Coast Hotline (call or text 800-783-0607) strives to reduce stigma and educate the community about mental illness by offering free guidance, crisis and suicide prevention and service referrals in San Luis Obispo County, Santa Maria and Lompoc.
“After much thought, our team chose to rebrand as Central Coast Hotline because it fully captures the community to which we provide crisis and mental health support,” TMHA Executive Director Jill Bolster-White said. “We strongly encourage everyone to save the hotline to their phones so they have immediate access to help whenever they need it.”
The 2021 Wellness Kickoff and “Save the Number” campaign are the capstone efforts of The 2020 Give. Since 2014 Verdin has hosted an annual event called the 24-Hour Give during which a worthy nonprofit gets a full rebrand, for free and all in 24 hours. In light of the pandemic, the Give was extended beyond a consecutive 24-hour period. Verdin worked with THMA, a handful of skilled creative partners and media sponsors to develop and execute this free mental health awareness campaign.
This year’s Give partners include Red Canary video production studio, Elliott Johnson Photography, Highlight Media, Boone Graphics, UPS Store in Marigold Center, PrintPal Promotion, The Sign Place, Centro, KSBY, KCOY, AGM and KVEC, Newstalk 920am, Spark Yoga, SLO Provisions and more.
