The 9th annual San Luis Obispo Greek Festival will be held at the Mission Plaza located at the corner of Chorro and Monterey St in downtown San Luis Obispo on Saturday, June 4 and Sunday, June 5. The festival hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.n. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Admission is free.

This event is a fundraiser for St. Andrew the Apostle Greek Orthodox Church, which supports many charitable groups in San Luis Obispo County such as the SLO Food Bank and the Prado Day Center.

Highlights of the 2-day festival are:

  • Homemade Greek food and pastries
  • Beer and local wines
  • Authentic Greek music
  • Performances by the St. Andrew’s Greek dance groups
  • Greek costume fashion show
  • Community booth
  • A marketplace with unique gifts and souvenirs

The festival menu will feature an array of homemade and traditional dishes, prepared using fresh ingredients from cherished family recipes. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options will be available. The classic Greek sandwich, the Gyro, will be served, as will specialties from the oak BBQ: Souvlaki (pork shish kebab) lamb and chicken. Two of our very popular menu items returning this year are fried calamari and Greek french fries. Menu items from the ovens will include: Moussaka (ground beef, eggplant, potatoes and béchamel sauce), Dolmathes (stuffed grape leaves), Spanakopita (spinach pie), and Tiropita (cheese pie) and Pastitsio (a Greek meat “lasagna”). Also available are fresh salads. Wine, beer, soft drinks and water will be available for purchase.

Traditional pastries will be available for purchase such as loukoumades (doughnut holes covered with honey), baklava (layers of nuts and filo pastry soaked in honey), and other wonderful homemade items.

The St. Andrew’s Greek dance groups (one adult and two children’s groups) will perform both days in their colorful hand-made costumes from various regions of Greece. In addition, guests can take part in free dance lessons and then join in the dancing themselves.

Also visit our marketplace, known as an “Agora” in ancient Greece, where our vendors offer many one-of-a-kind items for sale. Opa!
