slo train dayThe San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum will host Train Day on Saturday, May 5, 2018 to celebrate the rich history of trains and tracks on the Central Coast. Each year SLO Train Day is celebrated near the anniversary of the completion of the first transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869, at Promontory Summit, Utah, and the arrival of the Southern Pacific Railroad in San Luis Obispo on May 5, 1894.

The San Luis Obispo Train Day event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and features food, wine tasting by Pomar Junction Winery, a railroad swap meet, children’s activities, railroad photography and art plus the Museum’s world-class model railroad. The event will feature speakers Jean-Guy Dubé on Historic Southern Pacific Depots and Jim Gregory on WWII Central Coast flyers. Books will be available for signing. A spinning wheel demonstration will be taking place to show how clothes were made in 1894.

A new display will be opened, the Teddy Roosevelt Whistle Stop exhibit. This exhibit is a cooperation between the History Center and the Railroad Museum. It will feature the 1903 visit by our 26th President, plus whistle stops by other dignitaries.
