Cal Poly and the City of SLO have sent a letter to the SLO Downtown Association asking business owners not to open their doors before 9 a.m. on commencement days: June 14 and 15. The bars currently open their doors at 6 a.m. Citing disruptive, disrespectful and unsafe behavior by intoxicated students during recent graduation ceremonies, Cal Poly is working to improve the atmosphere at commencement. The city worked with Cal Poly on drafting the letter after being approached by the university with their concerns. The businesses cannot be required to comply with the request.
