A multipurpose trail connecting San Luis Obispo to Morro Bay is in the works. The trail, which would follow the 12-mile stretch of Highway 1 through Chorro Valley, is proposed to start near Cal Poly, run through Cuesta and end in Morro Bay. It is estimated to cost around $11 million. While the trail is still very much in the proposal stages many community groups including the SLO County Bicycle Coalition, Cuesta and Cal Poly are in support. Currently the proposed trail is undergoing a feasibility study, which is being funded by a Federal Scenic Byway Grant and supported by SLOCOG, the Cities of San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo County. The draft study will be presented to the SLOCOG board in September with final approval slated for August.
