The San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce that we were recognized for our commitment to supporting workforce integration, earning the an Outstanding Program Award at the Western Association of Chamber Executives (W.A.C.E.) Conference in Henderson, Nevada. This award honors the Chamber’s innovative SLO Onboarding Assistance Resource (SOAR) program, which provides essential support to newcomers in the San Luis Obispo workforce.

SOAR is designed to increase SLO Chamber members’ employee retention, making recruiting easier and giving employees who are new to the area support in making SLO their permanent home. SOAR helps individuals seamlessly integrate into the local business community by offering personalized onboarding services, networking opportunities and key resources to foster a sense of belonging. The program aims to reduce the challenges associated with relocating and starting a new job in the region, ultimately strengthening workforce retention and community engagement.

“We are incredibly honored to receive this recognition for SOAR,” said Jim Dantona, President/CEO of the SLO Chamber. “This program reflects our ongoing commitment to ensuring that professionals new to San Luis Obispo feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to thrive in their careers and contribute to our local economy.”

Rachel Whalen, the Chamber’s Governmental Affairs Coordinator who leads SOAR, emphasized the impact of the program on workforce development. “Through SOAR, we have been able to connect countless individuals and their families with the resources they need to succeed.
