With many families looking for ways to stay active and engaged during this challenging time, the San Luis Obispo Children’s Museum has relaunched its Busy Box program, this time with a local adventure twist. Each drawstring bag is filled with hiking recommendations, local wildlife information, crafts and at-home project ideas perfect for ages five to 10.
- Follow the over-lake boardwalk at Oso Flaco Lake and look for the amazing osprey using the included binoculars.
- Learn about El Moro Elfin Forest, tide pools along our coast, the SLO Botanical Garden and the critters living among us in Downtown SLO. Directions, seek-and-finds and more included.
- Make an ant farm, bee hotel and pressed flowers using basic household supplies.
- Plant the included milkweed seeds in an effort to help monarch butterflies.
Busy Box: Outdoor Adventure packs are free, and made possible through a partnership with SESLOC Federal Credit Union and funding from the Janssen Foundation Youth & Youth Sports Fund, a fund of the Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County.
SESLOC locations in Arroyo Grande, San Luis Obispo, and Atascadero will distribute the string packs while supplies last. To check on availability, follow along on Instagram @childrensmuseumslo and at slocm.org/busybox.
