The San Luis Obispo County Bar Association (“SLOCBA”) is proud to announce the creation of an endowment fund that will provide education scholarships to persons of color from San Luis Obispo county who have a demonstrated interest in the legal profession. The endowment will be administered by the Community Foundation with the first scholarship(s) planned for award in early 2021. In addition to the monetary award, the recipients will also be invited as honored guests to a SLOCBA event to network with members of our local legal community and further their legal career ambitions. Local technology company, Mindbody, Inc., has already agreed to donate $10,000.00 making them the first member of the “Founders Circle”.

Purpose

In California, only 23% of licensed attorneys are from a racial or ethnic minority group. The SLOCBA endowment is being established to broaden the number of traditionally underrepresented groups by providing education scholarships to those interested in a career in the legal profession with the goal of providing greater access to, and inclusion in, the legal system.
