sesloc federal credit unionAs SESLOC Federal Credit Union celebrates its 75th anniversary, the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors issued a proclamation, on Tuesday July 11, officially recognizing the credit union’s contributions to the community.

SESLOC President and CEO Geri LaChance accepted the proclamation, which was issued during the board’s regular meeting. John Peschong, chairman of the board, read the proclamation, which honors SESLOC’s founding as a credit union for teachers in 1942 and subsequent growth, which today includes nearly 50,000 members, 150 employees and assets of $795 million.

Supervisor Adam Hill said he has been a member of SESLOC since he was a student at Cal Poly.

“It’s a great credit union, and they do a lot of wonderful things for our community,” he said.

Peschong noted SESLOC’s recent $9,000 contribution to the SLO Food Bank’s Lovin Lunchbox program, which provides meals to children over the summer.

“It’s commitments like yours to the community that have made a difference in people’s lives,” Peschong said.

While SESLOC began as a teachers’ credit union, it has since expanded to serve the community at-large, but the commitment to teachers remain, LaChance told the supervisors.

“We’re still committed to education, and we still sponsor teachers every month with grants to help them in the classroom,” she said.

As a cooperative financial institution, the supervisors noted, SESLOC was designed to give profits back to its members, not stockholders, in the form of lower loan rates, higher savings and lower cost services.
