Alongside other philanthropic events hosted monthly by the community-owned grocer, 40 Prado Homeless Services in San Luis Obispo, CA becomes the latest recipient of the store’s community-based outreach opportunities. This non-profit beneficiary is a 365 days per-year facility that helps individuals and families improve their health and stability and move them towards self-sufficiency.

This collaborative effort is supplemental to the Co-op’s 2% Tuesdays Program, designed to give back 2% of each Tuesday’s total sales to a worthy community-chosen nonprofit.

“We host a wide variety of community-focused outreaches, ranging from monetary and food donations, social events and environmental sustainability projects,” said SLO Food Co-op Communications Coordinator Kasey Main. “As we continue to support and sustain our ongoing monthly projects, we are both energized and excited to creatively incorporate worthy causes into our umbrella of supported non-profit organizations.”

40 Prado Homeless Services Center, a non-profit organization, will receive all canned and non-perishable donated goods this December 2020 and January 2021. 40 Prado’s specialized services include the SLO-Hub Project for individuals seeking assistance in dealing with mental health and substance use issues and the Recuperative Care Program that provides a safe place to recuperate and convalesce for individuals who would otherwise be discharged to the streets. Additionally, 40 Prado serves as the Warming Center location for the City of San Luis Obispo during times of inclement weather.

“40 Prado Homeless Services Center is a local organization we’re happy to support,” said General Manager Zack Sheppard. “San Luis Obispo is a health-driven and mindful community, and this informs the relationships we build and the organizations we stand behind.”

SLO Food Co-op is currently open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the first hour dedicated to high risk shoppers. The team is also happy to shop for customers during regular store hours, Monday through Friday. Just bring your shopping list to a door attendant or cashier and they’ll take care of the rest.
