Celebrate SLO PARK(ing) Day on Friday, September 20 from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Ten Over Studio’s temporarily transformed Parklet. PARK(ing) day is an annual and worldwide event that encourages community members, students, and designers to transform metered parking spaces into temporary Parklets. Ten Over Studio, Cal Poly Landscape Architecture, and Purlieu Landscape Design + Build are proud to promote the only participating Parklet in San Luis Obispo.
Public spaces are dwindling in today’s car-dominate public landscapes. The vast majority of outdoor urban space is dedicated to the private vehicle, while only a fraction of that land is allocated to open space for people.
Fifth year Cal Poly students Jeremy Dvorak and Alex Limber designed the Parklet and have actively participated in its evolution and construction throughout the summer. Utilizing recycled materials and lush plantings, the Parklet will raise awareness of the importance of public space, reducing our carbon footprint, while promoting parks as community unifying and spaces of refuge.
The San Luis Obispo Parklet was not only designed with recycling in mind but the proposed plantings will be donated to Restorative Partners, a local non-profit that provides healing services to individuals impacted by crime.
Stop by San Luis Obispo’s participating Parklet at Ten Over Studio located at 539 Marsh St. in downtown San Luis Obispo.
