One of the key components to SLO Safe Ride’s business philosophy is helping people enjoy their lives responsibly. This mindset has allowed the transportation company to make San Luis Obispo County safer, more accessible and friendlier for large-group outings. It has also allowed the company to grow their fleet and team each year to positively impact more peoples’ lives. Now, the management at SLO Safe Ride has created a way to share and grow their vision with other reputable organizations, both local and nationally, in the form of a non-profit association called Responsible Living.

Responsible Living aims to fundraise for other mindful organizations while educating citizens about the safety-related resources available to them. Partnering with SLO Safe Ride in the Responsible Living Campaign, they use collaborative messaging and advertising to show which local and national brands have a vested interest in keeping the community safe and informed.

Initially, this effort was a private marketing campaign run by SLO Safe Ride called Community Partnership, but the extension of the program has allowed them to work with larger national entities, accept donations to fund their growth, and in turn, give back to the community on a larger scale. This includes more transportation resources, Hydration Stations, public speaking engagements, and donations to numerous charities such as the San Luis Obispo Women’s Shelter, Wood’s Humane Society, and Hospice SLO.

One of the biggest impacts the partnership of Responsible Living and SLO Safe Ride continues to make is their ability to help Cal Poly students travel and learn. SLO Safe Ride has become one of the preferred vendors of the school, while fostering relationships with their sports teams, Inter-fraternity Council, and other clubs. Each week, there is a SLO Safe Ride bus full of students headed to events such as the Youth Architecture Summer Camp, American Marketing Association Trip, or conferences on campus hosting other schools and administrators. Additionally, SLO Safe Ride has been a fixture at educational welcoming events such as WOW, SOAR, and move-in. This year, via Responsible Living, SLO Safe Ride will aim to provide even more educational material and Hydration Stations at graduations and other large celebrations.

Many of the organizations contributing to Community Partnership and Responsible living are mainstays in the San Luis Obispo community. Local favorites such as Novo, Luna Red, Woodstock’s, and Old San Luis BBQ are some notable restaurants, along with Tapit and Black Sheep working on the libation side of responsibility. The Shirt Peddler donates uniforms to support SLO Safe Ride, and the PAC Foundation has an agreement to provide shuttling to their VIP clients. Finally, national Social Responsibility Sponsors Miller-Coors and Budweiser run outdoor advertising campaigns to show their support for SLO Safe Ride and the Responsible Living Campaign.
