The San Luis Obispo Police Department is proud to announce the start of a new camera registration program.  This online tool allows residents of San Luis Obispo to register their home cameras, video doorbells and any other video capture devices with the Police Department.

Registering cameras will allow the Police Department to build a database of exterior camera locations throughout the city that can be viewed in map format to our Officers in the field.  Camera Registration will not provide direct camera access to the Police Department, but simply alert us to the presence of the camera. Information collected in the registration process will only be available to employees of the San Luis Obispo Police Department, for official use only.  No privacy rights will be forfeited by participating in this program.  Having this registration information will allow Officers to locate the presence of potential evidentiary video and contact the homeowner for a copy in a quick and efficient manner.  The San Luis Obispo Police Department has a high success rate identifying suspects in cases where video evidence exists.  The camera registration program will help improve safety by leveraging the popularity of high-quality home surveillance camera systems.
