STAND STRONG is proud to champion survivors of intimate partner violence as well as child abuse. We seek to raise awareness of our community’s need during October’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
For 41 years, Stand Strong (formerly the Women’s Shelter Program of SLO County) has provided critically needed services to people and families in our community. Services include a 24-hour emergency hotline with free translation including ASL, an emergency safe house, legal assistance, mental health counseling, 10 units of transitional housing, trauma-informed services for children, and more.
Our mission is to support survivors and end domestic violence in SLO County.
Survivors and their children face new and unprecedented dangers and challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic; oftentimes, as they seek safety and support. When we are told to stay home so we can stay safe, those in abusive homes are actually more at risk. As a result, the need for our services has increased dramatically, doubled or even tripled in some programs.
Accomplishing our mission takes the attention and commitment of every one of us in SLO County – standing strong together to advocate and work for a more peaceful, respectful and compassionate community. It takes all of us to pool our resources and work toward an equitable world.
Stand Strong has scheduled events throughout the month for our community. Events include Proclamation Ceremonies, Dining Out Against Domestic Violence at local restaurants, a Facebook Live discussion, partnerships with local service organizations like the Masonic Lodge and Fashions For a Purpose, a matching donation drive, and social media events like #VirtualVigils and #StandwithSurvivors.
