It was almost fate that Melissa Morrissey was going to own a tech business of some kind in her lifetime.

Armed with a degree in Math/Statistics, Morrissey’s most recent career was as an Associate Actuarial Analyst at UnitedHealthGroup and prior to that as a Parcel Data Analyst for Genco and as a Transportation Engineer at Schneider National, Morrissey opened an Experimac at 3940-3 Broad St., Marigold Center, in San Luis Obispo last week.  Capitalizing on a sustained demand for Apple® products, Experimac provides pre-owned computers and devices, repair of laptops, phones and tablets, trade-ins of existing devices, sales of accessories and upgrades.

“We can say tech is in the blood in our family”, the attractive 41-year-old shared. “We are very technology focused and use iPhones, iPads, work, playing games, everything. So you can say Experimac was the perfect fit for us. And since I am very family and community focused, this was the match.  Eventually we hope our kids will take over. They will be helping in the business all along.”

Melissa’s husband accepted a job in San Luis Obispo in February of 2015. The family picked up and moved from Wisconsin and Melissa worked from home in her prior position until they heard about Experimac and decided to take a look.

“We were blown away by the United Franchise Group”, the parent company and franchisor of Experimac impressed the family enough to take the plunge.  “It’s so great working with people who know what they are all about and give you the support you need,” said Melissa.

“In addition,” she added, “I started doing some research and learned that there’s a strong market for pre-owned devices. I thought it would be great to be part of the process.”

Since Experimac specializes in selling used products, particularly used Apple® products, the products can be sold at a price point that is accessible to a much-wider range of customers. When customers enter competing retail stores that sell new computers, smartphones and tech equipment, only one out of every 100 or so people actually purchase something because of the high price point, but they are much more likely to buy at Experimac.

Experimac customers typically enjoy average savings of 60 percent on pre-owned Apple® products over big-box retailers. And Experimac takes the risk out of purchasing pre-owned equipment with a 90-day guarantee. If something breaks, Experimac will repair or replace the defective part at no cost.
