Cuesta CollegeLocal artist and Cal Poly assistant professor Sara Frantz will showcase a series of new drawings created over the last year. Frantz’s works include gouache and graphite landscapes that further her engagement with the alleged polarities of banality and beauty. “A few are inspired by our local landscape, a few are hold-overs from years in Texas, a few from a trip to Southeast Asia, and all from my recent travels,” said Frantz. The formal strategies Frantz employs—traditional figure/ground relationships combined with rigid theatrical framing of otherwise unremarkable structures—quietly question conventional notions of beauty in landscape painting.

An opening reception is set for November 6 from 4:00pm– 7:00pm with an artist’s talk with Frantz at 5:30pm. The Harold J. Miossi Art Gallery is located in room 7170 on the SLO Campus.
