Vitalant is experiencing a critical shortage of blood donations, especially type O, and urges all eligible donors to make an appointment today to give in the days and weeks ahead. As people resume pre pandemic activities, like travel, fewer people are giving blood. Vitalant collected about 13,000 fewer blood donations in April and May 2022 than in the same months last year.
When you donate blood, you help save lives in our community. Every 2 seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. This constant need for blood can only be met by generous donors. You could be helping save the life of a cancer patient, someone needing open-heart surgery, or a young child in the ICU.
