Woods Humane Society is receiving $100,000 donation from San Luis Obispo residents Micheal and Sammy Pineau. The donation is being made in loving memory of their Labrador Jake who passed away in November.
“We are so touched by the Pineau’s generosity and how they have chosen to honor Jake’s memory by helping hundreds of animals find loving homes through Woods Humane Society.” – Jill Tucker, executive director of Woods Humane Society
The Pineau’s generous gift is timely, as the growth of donations is vital to sustain the advancement of services for homeless central coast animals. Woods Humane Society’s adoption program has grown by leaps and bounds, sustaining an 80% increase in adoptions over the past year and a half. It costs an average of $500 to move an animal through the adoption program and adoption fees charged for the pets cover a fraction of that cost. Additionally, in the interest of moving more animals through the program and saving more lives, Woods often discounts or waives fess with various promotions throughout the year. It is through charitable financial contributions paired with broad based community support that Woods is able to continue to serve ever increasing numbers of displaced animals.
2017 already looks like a great year for homeless animals! The existing Woods facility in San Luis Obispo is expanding to accommodate the growth of Woods programs with a brand new state of the art feline care and adoption center slated to open in January. As of January 1st, Woods will manage two adoption facilities– the effective date of their merger with North County Humane Society. Plans are also underway to open a low cost spay/neuter clinic at the current North County Humane Society site in northern Atascadero by early summer. All in all, Woods Humane Society expects to serve over 6,000 animals in 2017 through their two adoption and surgery centers.
Woods Humane Society receives no government funding and relies on the generosity of the community to provide these important services to the animals and people of San Luis Obispo County. The Pineaus invite others to join them in improving lives of displaced animals in San Luis Obispo County. Woods Humane Society is a 501c3 nonprofit organization and donations are tax-deductible.
