The Board of Directors of the San Luis Obispo Downtown Association recently decided to cancel its annual Taste of San Luis wine and food event indefinitely. The event—which has had a strong following of supporters over the last 20 years—has suffered from several years of declining revenue and attendance, increased cost and a rise in similar food and wine themed events regionally. The Downtown Association board decided to forgo the 2013 event and look into other fundraising programs. From its inception, the annual event has been a major fundraiser for the Downtown Association with the proceeds going to support design and promotional programs such as the downtown tree lighting. According to insiders the association will discuss a replacement fundraising event at its board retreat later this year.
