In an effort to encourage residents to share their love for SLO – which can yield more vibrant, connected communities and positively impact the local economy – the City hosted a series of events this past week with “For the Love of Cities” author Peter Kageyama. The culmination of community events was a public workshop that attracted more than 100 attendees who participated in three different activities. The first activity included expressing on post-it notes and publicly what they love about SLO. Other activities involved working in groups to design T-shirts that are intended to express what they feel is special about SLO, and finally, competing for a $500 Love your Community grant to make SLO more lovable. The top vote-getting idea that evening is to create a mural composed of pictures of smiling locals and assemble it on the side of the Anderson Hotel downtown; other ideas included creating “Ask Me” T-shirts for local “ambassadors” around town and creating a larger-than-life bowling alley in a city alleyway.
