About LLS

Blood cancers are the third leading cause of cancer death.  Approximately every 4 minutes one person in the United States is diagnosed with a blood cancer.  The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), is the world’s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to finding cures and providing access to treatments for blood cancer patients.

Investing in Cures

Over the last 60 years, LLS has invested almost $1 billion in research to advance therapies and save lives. Many are surprised to learn that LLS research grants have helped advance many of the most promising advances in cancer therapies, including targeted therapies and immunotherapies.

LLS is changing the paradigm of philanthropy, driving research in areas of unmet medical need, and helping to bridge the gap between academic discovery and drug development. We do that by creating partnerships with universities and biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies to provide funding across the continuum from basic research through clinical trials.

Access to Treatments

Therapies that don’t make it to patients can’t help them. A key LLS priority is ensuring access to quality, affordable, coordinated care for blood cancer patients through legislative advocacy and patient services.

About Be the Match

Be The Match, operated by the National Marrow Donor Program, is the world’s largest and most diverse registry of potential marrow donors.  Be The Match connects patients to life-saving donors for a cure. For patients with diseases like leukemia, lymphoma and sickle cell anemia, a marrow or umbilical cord blood transplant may be their only life-saving treatment.
