In roughly two years San Luis Obispo county residents may have a lot more flight options. This morning the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport terminal project including the receipt of federal grant funding, financing for other portions of the project and awarded the construction bid, the final hurdles in a 17-year process. The construction bid was awarded to Q&D Construction out of Sparks, Nevada. After construction begins it should take 18 months to complete the new terminal that will allow for more frequent flights with larger aircraft leading to possible expanded service to Denver, Seattle and Sacramento. Federal Aviation Administration grants and outside funding sources will cover 90 percent of the $35.4 million price tag. The expanded terminal will help serve locals, business people and tourists as it makes the region more accessible. This is growth that the Chamber and the business community have both supported and strived for over the last number of years.
