Against a backdrop of new healthcare legislation and reporting requirements in the insurance industry, 130-year-old Morris & Garritano Insurance and Gray & Troy Insurance Services are joining forces. The two San Luis Obispo-based firms will operate under the Morris & Garritano name and will consolidate into the larger firm’s office on Laurel Lane at year end. The two firms share a history together as colleagues and friends. Co-founder of Gray & Troy, Gene Gray, originally founded Morris & Garritano’s employee benefits department in 1978 and grew it over 21 years before moving to start his own employee benefit insurance firm with his son-in-law, Dan Troy. The combined full-service insurance agency will have more than 100 employees, including 10 from Gray & Troy. Both companies intend to retain all staff; Troy will become a shareholder in the combined firm. A charter member of the Chamber, Morris & Garritano has more than doubled in size in the last five years, mostly through organic growth.
