The search for the new executive director of Cal Poly’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship is well underway with the four finalists having already visited and toured the campus as well as the HotHouse and interviews all but wrapped up. The four candidates, two internal and two external, came to Cal Poly with backgrounds ranging from leading the launch of Amazon.de music and video in Germany, an international tax lawyer who led multi-million dollar IPO deals, a venture capitalist responsible for incubating early-stage companies, and one person who graduated with a 6.0 grade point average. The new executive director, who will fill the position previously held by Thea Chase who left in 2013 to lead an accelerator program in Colorado, will be responsible for managing on campus and off campus CIE programs and will lead some significant changes in the near future including moving into new spaces on campus and downtown, and expanding the programs reach – across campus and into the community. Insiders report that an offer will be made in the next month with a start date of July 1.
