Insiders report that plans are underway to develop a 110-acre parcel next to Costco on Los Osos Valley Road. Developers of the site, which was included in the recently approved Land Use and Circulation Element update, envision 60-100 detached single family homes, 200-250 apartments and 25,000-45,000 square-feet of primarily neighborhood-serving commercial development. In addition, the project intends to include a continuing care retirement community, with approximately 60 independent living villas, one and two-bedroom apartments, and 60 beds for skilled nursing and memory care. It’s understood that the facility will be managed by Life Care Services, a leading manager of senior living facilities in the country. The project is expected to begin an initial review process by several city advisory bodies this fall before beginning a design and environmental review process. If the project moves forward, the first phase of project- the senior living community- could come online as soon as 2018.
