Individuals diagnosed with concussion now have a local resource for injury management. Concussion Navigation Services opened in Fall 2021, and is the only concussion rehab specialty clinic in over 100 miles. Until now, patients have often traveled out of the area for individualized care.

Once thought to be an untreatable injury, researchers have now proven that early, active rehab leads to quicker and more complete healing. Experts recently declared that exercise is the mainstay of concussion recovery; “rest-and-wait” is no longer recommended. Pre-injury baseline testing is also helpful for improving patient outcomes.

1 in 10 athletes will experience at least one concussion playing their sport. In SLO County, concussions are common in mountain/road cycling, surfing, and equestrian/rodeo, as well. In addition to sports, concussions occur in car accidents, falls, and work-related activities.
