Since 1997, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance of the Central Coast, or GALA, has been dedicated to providing a safe place and resources, promoting the wellbeing of the gay and lesbian residents of San Luis Obispo County. But over the years, their focus has shifted to be more inclusive, providing resources to all within the LGBTQ+ community. To better represent their services, they have rebranded, now to be known as The Gala Pride & Diversity Center.

“This rebrand is really exciting for our organization,” said The Gala Pride & Diversity Center Executive Director Michelle Call. “We offer support and services to the entire LGBTQ+ community, and now our name better tells that story.” Call was hired as the organization’s first executive director in 2018 after more than 10 years working as a volunteer. In recognition of every person’s individuality and right to embrace who they are, The Gala Pride & Diversity Center’s new tagline is “Be bold. Be you.”

The public is invited to stop by The Gala Pride & Diversity Center on Global Pride Day, Saturday, June 27, from 1 to 3 p.m. There will be a curbside pickup for pre-ordered t-shirts celebrating pride and commemorating the organization’s rebrand, free pride flags, drag queens that will be entertaining while cars wait their turn for pickup and photo-op on the newly painted stairs. The Center is located at 1060 Palm St. in San Luis Obispo.
