Give OUT Day, the only national day of giving for the LGBTQ community, is a 24- hour online fundraising event that unites the LGBTQ community from all 50 states. Give OUT Day 2017 will take place on Thursday, April 20, 2017. Give OUT Day was launched in 2013 and has raised $2.4 million for LGBTQ non-profits across the country.
This year, David Elson and United Staffing Associates have pledged to contribute to the Growing Together Initiative (GTI), a fund held at the Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County, through a matching donation challenge to the community. For every donation made to GTI on Give OUT Day, United Staffing Associates will match that donation, up to $7,500.
Throughout the 24 hour event, thousands of people make gifts to support a diverse array of LGBTQ nonprofits across the country. GTI will raise funds for SLO County LGBTQ grants to local organizations that focus on the principles of social justice, a civil society, and safety of our youth. More than $130,000 in grants locally has been granted since 2002. An endowment fund of more than $300,000 has also been established to support local efforts focused on community inclusiveness now and in perpetuity.
“I personally give my time and money to the Growing Together Initiative (GTI) Fund because I believe that all LGBTQI people in our community deserve to be treated with equity, dignity and respect,” said Suzanne Fritz, GTI Advisory Committee Chair. “On Give OUT Day on April 20, I encourage you to join me in making a generous donation to GTI. Together we can make a positive difference in San Luis Obispo County by supporting equity and civility.”
The Growing Together Initiative committee will be hosting a booth at the SLO Thursday Night Farmers Market on April 20th to accept donations and share information about their fund.
