e-InsiderIn a move that aligns it with other incubator programs across the country, the SLO HotHouse is expanding again, and adding student housing. Cal Poly just signed a five-year lease that includes an additional 6,000 square feet of commercial space and 12,600 square feet of residential space in the historic Blackstone-Sauer building on the northeast corner of Monterey and Chorro streets across from the Mission. The building, owned by Copeland Properties, has been undergoing a remodel as part of the Chinatown-Monterey Centre, and will include 32 one and two-bedroom apartments for students selected to participate in the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship program. According to insiders the additional commercial space will provide increased programming and mentorship opportunities for students and a few community start-ups. Earlier this year the HotHouse expanded into the old Oddworld space above Ross Dress for Less. HotHouse businesses will remain in that spot as well. They are looking to move into the new space by August 2016.
