IQMS, a leading manufacturing ERP software company, announced the 2017 STEM scholarships awarded in partnership with The Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County (CFSLOCO).

The scholarship is available to eligible high school students in San Luis Obispo County and supports students pursuing a baccalaureate degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM). The inaugural year of the IQMS STEM scholarships attracted applications from 20 percent of the San Luis Obispo County high school students who plan to attend four-year colleges and universities.

In 2017, the scholarships have been awarded to Shaina Morris and Sienna Stinson.

Morris, who graduated from San Luis Obispo High School, will attend Johns Hopkins University in the fall and intends to major in molecular and cellular biology, and applied mathematics and statistics.

Stinson, who graduated from Templeton High School, will attend the University of California, Berkeley where she plans to major in chemical engineering.

Morris and Stinson each will receive $20,000, which will be disbursed over four years.

The IQMS Scholarship aims to foster the development of local talent who can bring skills and leadership to businesses in San Luis Obispo County, after their college education is completed. It is offered to current members of the graduating class of a San Luis Obispo County high school who are planning to enroll full-time at an approved four-year college and major in a STEM field degree. Eligible students need to exhibit a strong academic record, involvement in their school and/or community activities.

“We are pleased by the number of qualified local high school students who submitted applications for the first year of this important scholarship offered to our community,” said Heidi McPherson, CEO of The Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County. “This strong response can be attributed to the changing needs of our local students and it highlights the strength of our corporate partnership with IQMS in helping the talented students of our county realize their aspirations.”

“We are impressed by the strong interest and high caliber of the San Luis Obispo County high school students who applied for the inaugural IQMS Scholarship awards this year,” said Gary Nemmers, CEO of IQMS. “For nearly three decades, we have been dedicated to empowering companies and individuals to thrive in a technology-driven economy that is simultaneously local and global. We are proud to extend this commitment by helping students in STEM fields to achieve their academic goals through our role in The Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County’s scholarship program.”
