Phyllis Madonna, the Madonna Inn, and Executive Director Kirsten Rambo of the Women’s Shelter Program of San Luis Obispo County (WSP) announce the passing of the torch for the newly named 2018 charity event, “The Women’s Shelter Program Musical Revue and Fashion Show.” While Madonna will not perform in the show any longer, many aspects of the show will feel familiar to long-time attendees. The event will occur, as always, on the first weekend in March at the Alex Madonna Expo Center. The dates for 2018 are March 2 and 3.
Madonna said, “I can’t believe it has been 30 years of producing this show for the Women’s Shelter! And may I hug and say ‘thank you’ to each and every one of you form the bottom of my heart. I am thrilled to pass on my beloved musical revue and fashion show into the capable and loving hands of the Women’s Shelter Program. May you generous support continue for many years to come.”
WSP Board Member Toni Detz will chair the 2018 event. Cheri Humphrey, the long-time musical revue and fashion show producer from the Madonna Inn Boutique, will once again lead the show production with her fabulous team of volunteers. Humphrey said, “I am very excited about this transition and so happy that the Women’s Shelter Program will continue to carry on for 2018 what Phyllis Madonna began 30 years ago. And, yes, Mrs. Madonna will have her table at the end of the runway this year, cheering on the cast as they perform!”

“For three decades, Phyllis Madonna has selflessly raised both funds and awareness for the Women’s Shelter Program, and we are deeply grateful to her for championing this important cause in San Luis Obispo County,” Rambo said. “We are proud to partner with the Madonna family to announce the establishment of the Phyllis Madonna Legacy Fund to honor Mrs. Madonna’s long-standing commitment to helping survivors of domestic violence and their children. As a direct result of Mrs. Madonna’s advocacy, thousands of adults and children in this county have gotten the help they need to become physically safe, emotionally healthy, and self-sufficient. It is no exaggeration to state that, in many case, these services are absolutely life-saving.”
The Phyllis Madonna legacy Fund allows community members to honor Madonna’s work by donating to WSP in recognition of her decades-long commitment to this important cause. For more information about the fund, please go to www.wspslo.org or call 805-781-6401, extension 205.
