The City of San Luis Obispo has activated the Emergency Operations Center on the morning of January 9, 2023 to provide support during the storm. The National Weather Service is forecasting heavy rain with strong winds lasting through Tuesday that will impact the Central Coast. There is a high wind warning and a flood watch for the San Luis Obispo area.

Flood advisory is in effect and several roads in San Luis Obispo are flooded or closed. Major thoroughfares closed due to flooding.

  • Intersections that are currently closed:
    • Los Osos Valley Road at Foothill Boulevard
    • Tank Farm Road and Higuera Street
    • Oceanaire and Avalon
    • Marsh and Higuera Streets
    • Oceanaire and Galleon through Madonna
    • Calle Joaquin at LOVR closed in both directions
  • US 101 is still open right now. However, several on-ramps and off-ramps are currently closed. Northbound exits for Prado Road, Madonna Road, and Marsh Street are closed. Broad Street is the first Northbound exit available.

Please stay off the roads. City first responders have conducted six water rescues so far this morning, in which cars were partially submerged.  We are asking community members to turn around, don’t drown if there is flowing or standing water on roadways. Flood advisory in effect to 3:30 p.m. today. Flood watch is in effect through tomorrow.

For individuals who have been evacuated or need to find an alternate route via vehicle, please head to the Marigold or Foothill shopping Center parking lots as a temporary place, City personnel are onsite to answer any questions. Oceanaire neighborhoods are being asked to please shelter in place at this time.

All five Parks and Recreation childcare sites closed. Parks and golf course are closed at this time. Pool is currently open, but may close if needed.

Downtown businesses are advised to deploy flood gates to prepare for additional flooding.
