Courtney Kienow, marketing director at local law firm Carmel & Naccasha, will soon be leading the community relations efforts for the Office of the President at Cal Poly. She will begin on November 30. The newly created position was previously incorporated into the chief of staff role, held most recently by Betsy Kinsley. She will report to the new chief of staff once the position is filled. Kienow formerly served as then-Senator Sam Blakeslee’s district director, governmental affairs director at the Chamber and news producer at KCOY. The new position will focus on developing and maintaining relationships with local community members as well as government and business leadership in the region. Another familiar face has also recently moved to Cal Poly. Cory Karpin, who previously served as the executive director of both Woods Humane Society and the Foundation for the Performing Arts Center, joined the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship as director of development this week. The Leadership SLO Class XX alum will help fundraise to grow the CIE and the SLO HotHouse.
