Habitat for Humanity San Luis Obispo County invites the community to roll up their sleeves and flex their creative muscles with the return of the ReStore-It Challenge, launching January 8, 2026, at both the Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo ReStore locations.

The ReStore-It Challenge is a fun and friendly furniture upcycling competition that encourages participants to transform a well-loved piece into a refreshed showstopper, all while supporting Habitat’s mission to build strength, stability and self-reliance through home ownership.

“Every day at the ReStore, we see the potential in donated items,” said Stephanie Wright, ReStores Operations Manager for Habitat for Humanity San Luis Obispo County. “The ReStore-It Challenge invites our community to see that same potential, get creative, and show how reuse can be both impactful and inspiring.”

Participants begin by visiting the SLO or Paso Robles ReStore to purchase a pre-selected furniture item for $20. From there, the real fun begins. Contestants take the piece home, reimagine it through restoration or redesign and document their progress along the way. Participants are encouraged to share their before-and-after journey on social media using #ReStoreItChallenge and tagging @HabitatSLO on Instagram.

Completed pieces must be returned to the ReStore by April 1, 2026, where they will be proudly displayed for public voting. Customers can cast their votes both in-store and online, helping decide which transformation truly steals the show. After the voting, participants may pick up their item or donate it to be sold at the ReStores.

The winning entry will be announced during Habitat SLO’s Earth Day celebration on April 18, 2026, highlighting the power of reuse, creativity, and community impact.
