San Luis Obispo is among the best places to live in the nation. A study released by Livability.com earlier this month ranked San Luis Obispo in the top 2 percent of cities to live nationwide, listing geography and the Central Coast Wine Country as creating “a gold mine.”

“San Luis Obispo has a history of fostering and attracting businesses that know the value of high  employee job satisfaction is directly tied to quality of life; they know that happy employees are more productive and, among other benefits, are the best recruiting resource one can have,” said San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Ermina Karim. “These rankings continue to validate why San Luis Obispo is such a great place to pursue your passions.”

The study is based on a composite of more than 40 data points including amenities, demographics, economics, education, health care, housing, social and civic capital, as well as transportation and infrastructure.

The list is an exclusive, independent, editorial ranking by Livability.com in collaboration with world-renowned urbanist Richard Florida and assistant clinical professor Steven Pedigo from the Initiative for Creativity and Innovation in Cities at NYU School of Professional Studies.

According to the report which ranks San Luis Obispo as the 29th best place to live out of 2,100 studied, “Many residents of San Luis Obispo claim they’ve found the ‘happiest place to live.’ Geographically speaking, they’ve struck a gold mine. San Luis Obispo is situated between the Pacific Ocean and the Coast Ridge, smack dab in the middle of Central Coast Wine Country.”
