In 2020, SESLOC reached a milestone, surpassing $100,000 in education grants awarded to local K-12 teachers.

Each month since 2013, SESLOC has awarded education grants in amounts up to $500 for innovative and creative classroom projects and equipment that go beyond the usual classroom budgets.

“This year COVID has put additional stress on teachers’ resources as they search for creative ways to engage students in distance learning,” said Carla Swift, Assistant Vice President of Education & Service Management. “SESLOC is committed to supporting their efforts.”

Thanks to SESLOC education grants, Central Coast teachers have enhanced their distance learning curriculums:

  • Cambria Grammar School fourth graders are practicing strategic thinking and planning skills with new at-home chess sets and video lessons from their teacher.
  • Adam Elementary school in Santa Maria is implementing an at-home physical education challenge with jump ropes provided for each student.
  • Paso Robles High School purchased GoPro equipment to provide live online science lab demonstrations and data-taking so A.P. Physics students can meet their laboratory requirements.
  • Multiple teachers have been able to provide math manipulatives, reading materials, and art supplies for at-home learning, as the result of Education Grant funds.

SESLOC is committed to providing support for San Luis Obispo and Northern Santa Barbara classrooms. Teachers can learn more about the program or apply for an education grant at sesloc.org.
