A multi-phase renovation of the Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center Emergency Department is now complete. The project, which began late last year, cost nearly $700,000 and includes new flooring, lighting, ceiling tiles, counter tops, cabinetry, paint and other fixtures. New gurneys and computer workstations were also added to each exam room and the nurses’ station was updated and re-wired to better improve workflow. The emergency department remained fully operational throughout the entire five month process.
“We recognize that environmental appearance is an integral part of a positive patient experience and it’s important to us to provide our community with expert professional care in a clean, bright and professional environment,” said Susan Rainey, director of nursing, emergency services.
The Sierra Vista Emergency Department currently has 11-beds and last year treated more than 24,000 patients. Sierra Vista is staffed by a group of local emergency medicine trained doctors and has the distinction of having the most comprehensive panel of specialists on call in San Luis Obispo County. Additionally, Sierra Vista maintains the only dedicated Pediatric Unit in San Luis Obispo and has a pediatrician available to the Emergency Room 24/7. The Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons verified Sierra Vista as a Level III Trauma Center in 2015.
For non-life threatening emergencies, patients can use Sierra Vista’s online ER Check-In to make an appointment and wait at home. To reserve a spot, visit SierraVistaRegional.com and click on “Choose your Time.”
