Paying homage to Mother Nature, Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center will highlight their commitment to Going Green during this year’s Earth Day Celebration on April 21, 2017. Officially launched in 2009, Going Green at Sierra Vista is an on-going effort to reduce, reuse and recycle resources through environmentally-friendly practices. Since its inception, Sierra Vista has significantly reduced paper, water and electricity consumption, as well as the amount of overall waste being taken to local landfills.

Earth Day festivities at Sierra Vista will take place in front of the Outpatient Services entrance from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and include the following for Sierra Vista employees:

  • Campus Clean-up: Employees and volunteers will walk around campus and through the neighboring community picking up trash. Walk begins at 11:30 a.m.
  • eWaste Recycling: Employees are encouraged to bring in old televisions, computers and stereos for proper recycling in order to divert these items from going to our local landfills.
  • Sustainable Garden & Environmental Pledge: Those employees who pledge to reduce their carbon footprint will receive a succulent or herb plant to start their own sustainable gardens at home.
  • Local Produce Box: Sierra Vista is now a pick-up location for a weekly community supported agriculture fresh harvest box. Employees will be given information on the program and the opportunity to sign-up to conveniently receive high-quality local produce. Talley Farms will also raffle off some boxes
  • Sustainable Food Options: Sierra Vista is committed to building sustainable food systems. Samples of delicious foods will be available as well as pick-up easy recipes.
  • Fresh Juice: Fresh pressed juice from The Neighborhood will be available.
  • Wellness Checks: Employees will be able to learn more about body composition and get tips on how to feel more energized.

In addition, Sierra Vista employees who donate $5 to the San Luis Obispo Heart and Stroke Walk and burn a few calories during the campus clean-up will be allowed to wear jeans to work Friday.
