The San Luis Obispo County YMCA announced the completion of renovations on the Y’s Fitness Facility at 1020 Southwood Drive. The fitness center received a new, energized layout with increased space for fitness equipment, along with the addition of two new family-friendly restrooms. The front entrance and lobby were also redesigned with full ADA access. The half million-dollar project was made possible by a lead donation from Lisa Gonzalez, a long-time Y donor, with additional gifts from other funders.
The Y’s Board, under the leadership of Carl Dudley and Erik Justesen, Chair of the Y’s Facility Planning Task Force, have focused on the vision and execution of this effort for over two years. Other members of the Y’s Facility Planning Task Force included: Clint Pierce, Madonna Properties; Dave Cox, AMF Media; Chis Teaford, Specialty Construction; Colleen Murphy, SESLOC; Tai Martin, Colliers International; Dan Farnum, French Hospital; and Juanita Holler, Cal Poly. The Y is grateful for Frank Seiple, Fraser Seiple Architects and Dan Rutledge of Rutledge, Inc., for their work on the project.
Along with access to the fully-outfitted fitness facility, members of the SLO County Y enjoy the benefits of free on-site child care, a racquetball court and saunas. Use of the SLO Swim Center, group fitness classes and discounted rates for personal training are also included in membership. Y Members can also take advantage of membership access at YMCA’s across the nation. New members who join by November 15th will receive two complimentary personal training sessions.
Monica Grant, CEO of the SLO County Y said, “The Y is committed to affordable and accessible family fitness as a means to improve and maintain health, well-being and community connection. This remodel creates a beautiful and inclusive space for all members of our community”.
The Y celebrated with a ceremonial ribbon cutting on Monday, October 22.
