“Try to Remember” when the The Fantasticks, a delightful musical fable about life, love and loss, wasn’t charming audiences around the world. Written and originally produced by lyricist Tom Jones and composer Harvey Schmidt in 1960, The Fantasticks is known as the longest-running musical in the world. The show’s original Off-Broadway production ran a total of 42 years (until 2002) and 17,162 performances, making it the longest-running musical in history. The show remains a favorite for regional and community theatres across the country with over 250 productions every year. The show has stood the test of time for a very simple reason: at the heart of its breathtaking poetry and subtle theatrical sophistication is a purity and simplicity that transcends cultural and generational barriers. Try to Remember, Soon It’s Gonna Rain, I Can See It and They Were You, The Fantasticks is a funny, romantic musical that manages to be nostalgic and universal at the same time and has been delighting audiences of all ages for almost 60 years.

The Fantasticks runs September 13-October 13, Wednesdays-Saturdays at 7 pm and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 pm. Tickets range in price from $20-$39 and are available at slorep.org or by calling (805) 786-2440.

ABOUT THE SHOW

The story is simple: A boy and girl fall in love. They stray. They return bruised and broken by the world, but wiser and more in love. Told with wit, wonder, romance and imagination, The Fantasticks is a musical fable for everyone.

The Fantasticks is directed by David Carey Foster, with musical direction by Mark Robertshaw and choreography by Christy McNeil Chand. The show features the talents of Tony Costa, Taylor Hart, Ashur Gharavi, John Lambie, Billy Breed, Mike Mesker, Phineas Peters and Elliot Peters. Scenic Design by David Linfield; Costume Design by Stephanie Joseph; Lighting, Sound and Projection Design by Kevin Harris.
